People Talks

Danial F
I am interested in paintballing particularly woodsball. What effects would the game have on a person with Asperger's in the long run? Is there anyone on this forum who plays paintball? Also, what would be a reasonable price for my first marker and equipment?

I think you might be in danger of having fun, and possibly being overstimulated.

AFAIK, there's really not much difference between an NT and aspie when it comes to paintball.

It's lots of fun, but it sucks getting hit.
It only hurts for a few days afterwards.

I've always wanted to play paintball, being an avid gamer who enjoys FPS games, but I've never tried it just for that reason. I don't want to randomly get shot with something that hurts enough to leave a welt! Shocked Plus you have to wear uncomfortable gear.
I might try it some day, because it sounds like a lot of fun besides that.

I play paintball quite often, it's good fun.
Just to dispel a myth or two, the paintballs don't hurt, when they hit you! But do tell everyone who's attending for the first time that they hurt like hell, it makes them cower down and they become easy pickings!

Tips: don't go trigger crazy and use up all your paintballs at once, pick your shots or the cost of paintballs will be sky high. Always find the tallest guy and run behind them until cover is found.

Head shots don't count, (you wear a mask always), so find cover and poke your head up exposing only your mask, people will fire at your mask and you drain the oppositions paintballs!

For fun shoot the smallest kids first they squeal like pigs Wink

Price: it varies but internet deals for groups can be very cheap, expect anywhere between

mostly have fun!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't hurt? But it leaves "welts" right? Are welts just like hickies?

I would have to disagree with the statement made above that getting hit doesn't hurt. It does hurt. I used to play a lot of paintball. I started out playing woodsball but found speedball a lot more fun.

I wish I had my marker here with me, I would throw a pic up (I have to admit, it's pretty awesome).

Hope you enjoy it. My only advice to you would be to practice good safety habits and never go anywhere paintballs are flying without a mask!

The only times the painballs hurt is when you don't expect them.

The last time that I went paintballing I showed up in shorts and a t-shirt and it didn't hurt too much.
The welts are actually fun to count and each one has a little story you can share with people (a chance to work on your social skills!)

If you don't have extreme sensory issues, it's worth the $60-70 for a marker and a fair amount of paint.

You have to work together as a team. I think that might be something to consider for someone with AS. It might help with your social skills too.

We are either hyper or hypo sensitive so being hit by a paintball either hurts a lot or doesn't hurt.

I'm quite interested in it but I'm not sure if I could keep up with a team. Maybe I'll just be a sniper.

I was the guy in the back of the course for my first games, too.

Paintball is one of the few times I actually do work as a team, it's always nice to make sure someone is guarding my back. Attracting paint balls by myself is not that fun.

Well Exhumed, paintball welts tend to be about the size of a Quarter(25 cents U.S. currency) and sting after a little while Confused

Thanks for all the advice and interesting quotes, I'd like to start out with woodsball because of the strategy involved. I played both woods and speedball(woodsball the most) 2 years ago at a sports and adventure camp in Montana, where I was working for a duration of two and a quarter months(mostly near the end of every session). Smile This topic is now officially closed!

I love paintballing but make sure you play with people who follow the rules. I went to an indoor place last year with some friends. The other team was full of kids 10-15 yrs old (we're all in our mid to late 20s). Not one of the little $%!#$ followed a single one of the posted rules and the refs all but ignored it. My friend had to stop me from charging them and lighting them up at point blank range for the stuff they were pulling.
